Free Bet Blackjack Strategy Guide
Free Bet Blackjack adds two rule twists: players can split any pair for free, and the dealer pushes on a 22 instead of busting. These changes alter basic strategy compared with standard blackjack.
Because the free double after split and the dealer push both reduce the house edge, the optimal chart differs from classic versions. Players should memorise the new decisions to keep the edge as low as possible.
Understand the Rule Changes
The dealer stands on all 17s and pushes if their total reaches 22. This single change increases the house edge by roughly 0.2% compared with standard rules.
However, the ability to split any pair without an extra wager offsets part of that increase, making the overall house edge similar to many single-deck games.
Hard Totals
With a hard 16, stand against a dealer 2 through 6 and hit against 7 through Ace. The free split option makes doubling less attractive on stiff totals.
Always hit a hard 12 against a dealer 2 or 3, because the dealer push on 22 reduces the value of standing in those match-ups.
Soft Totals
Double soft 18 against a dealer 3 through 6. Against a dealer 2 or 7 through Ace, simply hit, since the free split does not apply to soft totals.
Soft 19 and 20 should stand in all cases; the dealer push on 22 does not change the fact that these totals already beat most dealer hands.
Pairs
Split any pair for free, including 10-value cards. The expected value of splitting tens is higher here than in standard blackjack because the second hand plays without an extra bet.
Re-split up to three times if another matching card appears, but never double down after a split unless the dealer shows 5 or 6.
Bankroll and Table Selection
Choose tables with a £5 minimum to keep variance manageable while you practise the adjusted strategy. Higher limits increase exposure during losing streaks.
Track your average bet size against session length so that the free-split rule does not encourage over-betting when cards turn against you.
